The Benefits of Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)

Blood is made up of four main components: plasma, red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. PRP stands for platelet rich plasma. Plasma is a large portion of the human blood. It makes up approximately 55% of blood in the human body. The plasma substance carries all of these cells throughout the body and transports the cells when and where it is needed, such as during an inflammatory response or injury. PRP is made by taking a small sample of blood and spinning it in a centrifuge for about fifteen minutes. This process concentrates platelets and white blood cells in what is called a “buffy coat” that is extracted and delivered to the targeted area. This substance is RICH in growth factors. A growth factor is a substance capable of stimulating cellular growth, proliferation, and healing. In fact, it has over 30 different growth factors in it. To name a few: Fibroblast Growth Factor (GFG), Platelet Derived Growth Factor (PDFG), Epidermal Growth Factor and Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF). Although they have different names and act different, they all heal wounds, regenerate new cells and promotes recovery from injury. Since its discovery, it has been applied to the medical field for a variety of treatments in pain management, cosmetics, dentistry, and sports medicine. A&R Therapies offers a range of treatments with PRP to regenerate tissue and provide skin rejuvenation. Services include: PRP injections to injured tissue, joint and/or muscle, microneedling with PRP to enhance/rejuvenate the skin and hair restoration for the treatment of alopecia (hair loss).
